When was your last workplace ergonomics assessment?
If you are sitting at your desk reading this on your PC or laptop, or you’re on a train reading on your phone or tablet, you’re not alone; most of us spend an average of 9.5 hours a day sitting.
Given the amount of hours we all sit during the day at work it makes sense to ensure that the environment in which you sit is as comfortable and efficient as possible. Most importantly, you need to make sure it isn’t damaging your health. You may remember faint echoes of the workplace ergonomic desk assessment you had when you started this job but undoubtedly things have slipped.
Ergonomics is “the study of how equipment and furniture can be arranged in order that people can do work and other activities more efficiently and comfortably” For us here at Richmond Osteopaths, thinking about how you interact with your work environment after you leave your treatment session is really important because it not only gives us insight into things that might be exacerbating your problem but allows us to give you hints and tips on how to reduce aggravating factors.
You wouldn’t sit on a comfortless couch or sleep on a miserable mattress so why spend your day at a disagreeable desk!
If you have back, neck, upper limb pain or headaches associated with posture and your work, we can help. We advise on desk set-up and your work environment and even offer a bespoke workplace assessment – speak to a member of our team for more details.
